Mass Editing Trail Camera Timestamps

Mass Editing Trail Camera Timestamps

We’ve all been there. After pulling our trail camera SD cards, we run home, load them onto our computer, only to realize the timestamps are completely wrong.

Either we didn’t account for Daylight Saving Time, the camera somehow defaulted back to its original settings (some three years earlier!), or we just forgot to set the time after changing batteries. While DeerLab has allowed you to update a photo’s individual timestamp, we admit the process was a real pain when needing to do this for hundreds, if not thousands, of trail cam photos. But we have good news. Those days are over!

As some of you have noticed, we recently added a new “Correct Timestamp” feature to the main Photos page. This tool will easily allow you to correct the timestamps of one or more photos at once.

How to Correct Timestamps

First, you’ll need to upload the photos with incorrect timestamps from your SD card to DeerLab using the normal method: select the camera location then the “Upload” button.

Helpful Tip: To help you find the group of photos to be corrected, take note of the dates of the first and last photos.

Once the photos are uploaded, select the “Correct Timestamps” button on the main Photos page, as seen here.

Correct Timestamps for trail and game cameras

You’ll be able to filter the photos you want corrected by selecting the camera and date/time range of the photos, as seen below.

Filter photos by date range

After selecting “Find Photos…” DeerLab will grab all the photos for that camera in the date range you selected so you can adjust their timestamps.

Change the timestamp of photos

On this page you’ll see the first and last photo of the date range selected. Changing the timestamp of the first photo will automatically adjust all the photos in that date range.

Helpful Tip: If you can’t see the timestamp on the photo just select the photo for an enlarged view.

Note you’ll be able to change the date as well as the actual time. For example, if you’re adjusting for Daylight Saving Time you’ll only adjust the time by 1 hour.

Select a date and time

Once you set the correct date and time just select the “Update Timestamps” button and all the photos will be updated. It’s that easy.

DeerLab will automatically update all the weather data for each photo and adjust all the profile reports with the new settings. This typically only takes a few seconds but at times, depending on how many concurrent updates are taking place, can take up to 15 minutes.

Feedback Welcomed!

As always, we would love to hear your thoughts on the new timestamp editing tool. Take it for a spin and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any suggestions. We definitely appreciate your feedback!
